We have a FM database where we gather product cut sheets (pdfs of product specifications), and reprint them with additional job specific data. We deliver them to our client as pdfs. Ever since FM changed over to the new pdf creation engine (14.0.6), FM frequently gives us an error message saying the pdf cannot be created on the disk. We know that part of the problem is the pdf - those with form fields or other advanced features are the root of the problem. 14.0.5 does not have a problem creating pdf. FM 15, however, produces MUCH higher quality pdfs. Plus, we have 10 people who have upgraded to 15, so we're in a pickle.
More specifically, the problem lies in the "Save as PDF" script step (our solution is heavily scripted for efficiency). If we have a file that returns the error "could not be created on this disk", we can instead use the normal Print dialog box, then use the Mac OS "Save as PDF" function (in the lower left), and it creates the pdf without any problem.
So, if Filemaker could use the printing process that the Mac OS uses, rather than it's own, we would not have this problem, and everybody would be happy, and our process would be smooth and efficient rather than clunky and annoying.
If anyone else has found a solution, I would love to hear it. I've spent a great deal of time trying to sort this out!
