Send Mail via SSL-certified SMTP Server throwing verification error

Product and Version: FileMaker Server 15.x

OS and version: Windows Server 2012 R2

Client has an Exchange 2013 server with a valid DigiCert WildCard Plus certificate (with Extended Validation) installed. The FM Server 15 instance also has a valid SSL certificate installed. When sending out an email via SMTP, the script step returns an error 1634 ("A certificate verification error occurred"), and the email fails to be sent out. Ideally, the server would verify that there is, in fact, a valid certificate and SSL connection between FMS 15 and the Exchange server, and send out the email as expected.

A few questions:

  • Is there a workaround for this particular issue?
  • If the both the FileMaker Server and the Exchange SMTP server have valid certificates, what would be the cause for a certificate verification error?
  • Does FileMaker Server just not like WildCard certificates when trying to validate the SSL connection for sending out an email message?
  • Can there be a feature added to allow the Send Mail script step to override the error if it comes up?
