FileMaker Pro - Find

I have a field in a Jobs table, CustomerID, that is related to a second table Customers through the CustomerID field. The Customers table supplies the CustomerName to the Jobs table via the CustomerID field. When I try to Find records in the Jobs table for a particular CustomerName, the Find does not find a single record if my Find is longer than one word.

For example:

Find CustomerID = John Smith: Returns no records

Find CustomerID = John*: Returns John Smith, John Doe, John Deere...etc all the John Records as expected when using the wild-card *.

Find CustomerID = John *: (Note space character after the "n", Returns no records

The CustomerID field in the Jobs table is the only field in that table that looks-up a value, CustomerName, from the Customers table. I do not know why this is occurring and suspect the problem in a simple oversight in the database schema or field definitions. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
