You can use Views that are set up on the SQL side to show subsets.
+1! Views help narrow the set.
Also I like to do the steps in this order:
1. Enter Find mode (on a non-SQL layout/table)
2. Go to the layout for the SQL table (while still in find mode!) - this should only be a Form View, not List or Table View type layout
3. Perform the find (now you are are still on Form View in Browse mode)
4. If and ONLY if there is a sufficiently small set of data from the search (and sort), you may then go to a layout (or toggle the current one) with List View or Table View.
This method is most helpful when dealing with large data sets (internal or external).
Thank you, both, for the replies. I did my Finds as you suggested but it was still too long a wait and I frequently blew up our server (Term Serv- I know, I know...) and I am not the SQL admin however, I did gain access to the SQL server after much begging and have created a few views that are working. Thanks again!
