Filemaker 15 Pro Adv crashes on creating a DDR

    Gingernut

I am using Windows 10 and Filemaker Pro Advanced 15

I have recovered the file and there are no errors

I have tried running it on a clone in case there was too much data but it just keeps crashing and is driving me crazy.

It is only on crashing on the three files I need the report for

I have successfully run a DDR on other files.

I get two errors as well as the windows reporting error

If you recover one of these files (recover the clone, it'll recover faster), does a DDR of the recovered copy also crash?

Generate the DDR in XML format and if it still crashes you'll have a good chance of figuring out what causes it (usually something on a layout).

At the moment of the crash, FM will have written an incomplete XML file so if you start at the end of see what element it is you can then remove it.

No it still crashes on clone or compated file I tried them all

OK so I created the XML file but I do not really know what I am looking for - It will not import successfully into Base Elements so I cannot see there what is going on. This is all I get.

This is from the GUI file which is the first of three files the entire XML is huge and will not even open in Dreamweaver.

If anyone has any idea what I need to be looking at in the Interface table I would be very grateful -- if you need more of the XML let me know

It won't import into BE because the XML is broken, but that's what we want at this point.   Take the last generated XML file, the one that is incomplete and abruptly stops.  Looks like you pasted the last bit here.  That will tell you what element is causing grief.  But you need to go farther up in the XML to know in what 'catalog' that part is.  Is it in the layout catalog?  You basically need to go up until you know what catalog, then down to the parent element (layout? table? custom function?) and then you'll know exactly what to remove from the file and try the XML DDR again.  Obviously you want to do all of this in a copy of your actual file.

Had a similar issue that was resolved successfully. Here is a thread that might (or might not) help...

Thanks Tony I read the whole article and will work through the process you have suggested - That's probably my weekend taken care of :-) - I do love the Filemaker community and will have a listen to your podcasts- Bound to learn something - interested in the ne that mentions fire-walking one as I did that last year.
