PDF Preview not working and/or throwing errors

PDF preview problem.

software involved: fms14, FMP14, FMPA14, Adobe Reader XI, Adobe Acrobat XI Pro, Windows 7.

This is a problem showing up in a new solution and an existing solution that was developed originally in version 9 and ported up to version .fmp12 and is now running on fmserver 14 with Pro and Pro Advanced 14.  In both solutions, interactive containers either don't render a preview of a pdf or display one of 2 different errors.  The first error is "Adobe Acrobat does not support Internet Explorer's Enhanced Protection Mode (EPM). Either install the latest version of Adobe Reader or disable EPM in Internet Explorer." This error can be made to go away if one sets Adobe Reader XI to the default pdf reader rather than Pro, but then for all computers except one, the PDF does not show in the container - it stays blank or shows a grey box.

If Reader is set to the default, the error doesn't come up and on the one computer that does show a preview, exporting the container with 'automatically open" checked, it works but then after a second or so displays a windows error that says "Adobe reader has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. please close the program."  If one then, clicks "close the program", Adobe Reader does NOT close but the preview in Filemaker goes to grey and all other PDFs display the grey box until FileMaker is restarted. Then the previews come back until you open one of the pdfs again and then the cycle repeats.

What program is being stopped between filemaker and adobe reader that is controlling the pdf preview in the container field?
