I have a number field showing 0,89€. Placed it in a merge field (i.e. <<field>>) and it shows ,89€.
Why is the "0" missing?
What number format option have you specified for the text object that contains this merge field?
If you specify number format options on the merge-field for an amount, then the number of items will be affected too if they are in the same body of text.
<<numberfield>> <<amountfield>> €
Would look like:
10,00 0,89 €
You would either have to separate the mergefields into separate bodies or you can create a calculation that form you amount into a decent format. Agnes Barouh has created an excellent function for that and posted it on Brian Dunning's website: FileMaker Custom Function:NumberFormat ( Number ; DecimalPrecision ; ThousandSeparator ) .
Thanks Menno and Philmodjunk.
I did not realise tha I could use number formatting in a merge field. I just never even considered the possibility since I always use normal text in them. Working now:)
Just keep in mind the limitations that Menno mentioned. You might have multiple merge fields and variables all in the same text object. The inspector's data formatting enables you to specify one format for each data type that is then applied to all fields/variables in that text block with that data type. If you have two number fields that need different formatting, you can't use the inspector to give them different number formats if they are part of the same text object.
Agnes' page is a real treasure!
Brian Dunning's that is...
