    Report sorting

    GJBDJC

I am creating a report which will include:  Production Date, Project Number, Product Name and Total Pounds

And show only sub-totals for each Project Number

My Sub-Summary is set for "When sorted by Project Number" and works fine.

I want to have the report sorted by Production date in descending order, but when I add Production Date to the sort...

The report gives me totals for each day.  I only want the totals for the Project Number, which may run for several days.

Can you show a screenshot of this report in layout mode?

Do you want something like this?

                3/1/2017

                   Project 1 total

                   Project 2 total

Project 3 total --> last day for project 3

                3/2/2017

                   Project 1 total

                   Project 2 total

                   Project 4 total  ---> project 4 starts

Or did you have something else in mind?

To get the above, you'd add a sub summary layout part "when sorted by" your production date

If I set my sub-summary to "when sorted by "Project Number" everything works fine...Except

the report is not sorted chronologically in descending order as I want.

                  I want:

                  Station 19     2/28/17     Project 14     1000 pounds

                  Station 19     2/21/17     Project 13     1200 pounds

                  Station 19     2/19/17     Project 12     1100 pounds

If I add Production Date (descending) to my sort order, I get:

                  Station 19     2/28/17    Project 14     500 pounds

                  Station 19     2/27/17    Project 14     500 pounds

                  Station 19     2/21/17    Project 13      400 pounds

                  Station 19     2/20/17    Project 13      400 pounds

                  Station 19     2/19/17    Project 13      400 pounds

                  Station 19     2/18/17    Project 12      300 pounds......

                    Hi GJBDJC,

There is a way to accomplish what you want, by repurpose the "reorder based on summary field" capability of the sort function.

For the description I assume you want to sort on "last manufacture date".

To achieve this you have to create a summary field that "summarize" maximum of manufacture date. Then in your sort step you only have to sort by Project Number, but. With Project Number selected on the upper right hand side of the sort dialog, look close to the bottom of the dialog for the "reorder based on summary field" checkbox. Check it and select the "last manufacture date" summary field. Voilà!

If you want to sort on first manufacture date instead, just use minimum instead of maximum in the summary field.

                    With best regards Magnus Fransson.
