Email information in Excel format

I have a script that searches through a database and pulls information from records for upcoming events and emails it to a third party to have information packets sent out. The script places the information in the body of the email separated by comas, so while it is separated by comas it is not even really CSV - what I would like and what the third party has been quite emphatic about requesting si that the data be plugged into a spreadsheet and then emailed. I have not been able to find clear instructions on how to do this.
