LinkedIn updated there design a couple of week ago and most probably to new technique. If your browser is old it might not fully function on there homepage. Make sure you have a up to date browser and I think the problem will disappear
The browser, which is the webviewer within Filemaker, is as old as Filemaker makes it. I am running FileMaker in the latest version, so FileMaker needs to upgrade.
Other browsers on my computer work fine with LinkedIn
FileMaker is using your standard web browser as the browser in a WebViewer. On Windows it is most often Internet Explorer on a old computer and on Mac most probably Safari. If you have installed Firefox and set it to be your standard web browser FileMaker and Firefox to not always go hand in hand. For that reason I think you should stay with a recommend browser in latest version.
FileMaker itself have nothing to do with what is showing inside your WebViewer. It is just using the web browser engine to populate what is inside the window for your WebViewer.
I can't quite reproduce this, but on Windows 8.1 with IE 11, the rendering in a web viewer does lack some of the content.
Most likely, the issue is rather with LinkedIn and the way they've implemented blocking/allow certain content for specific browsers
What's your operating system and IE/Safari version? (FIleMaker's web viewer will always use IE/Edge on Windows and Safari on Mac, even if you choose another browser as your default browser)
Exactly which URL are you using for the web viewer?
okay, but weird is it that in FireFox 51.0.1 and IE 11 on the same computer the page is shown normally. In FileMaker is shows a LinkedIn page with a error from LinkedIn.
I'm using Windows Server 2012 and FileMaker Server/FM Advanced and FM pro all 15, latest updates
That might be your problem. Have you chosen Firefox as your standard web browser?
Nope, IE is default browser. By the way it worked fine for the last few years....suddenly not anymore. LinkedIn upgraded something on their page and now it is not working anymore.
In the mean time I called FileMaker support. They recognise the problem and need to upgrade something on their site(?) Not knowing when but hopefully in FM16......
You can confirm what browser the web viewer is using by going to this URL with a web viewer:
You might find that it's not using the same version as you are when you open your "default". Some people report that when updating their browser it updates the browser used by the web viewer, while others report a mismatch. Reinstalling the web browser might help.
Try setting your web viewer to a website like https://www.whatismybrowser.com to get an indication of how the website that's displaying the content interprets the browser when you visit the website from a web viewer.
The web viewer uses the technology of the IE browser, but it's not 100% identical in behaviour to what you get when using actual IE.
On Windows 8.1, IE 11, I am getting "Internet Explorer 9 Compatibility View" in a FileMaker web viewer - details like these may help explain your issues.

FMP webviewer default to IE9. You change change to IE11
You will have to edit your registry
Go to the run box. In Windows 10 right click the start button then select run. type Regedit then click ok.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> SOFTWARE -> Microsoft -> Internet Explorer -> MAIN -> FeatureControl -> FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION -> FileMaker Pro Advanced.exe
When you double click on FileMaker Pro Advanced.exe the setting may be in Hexadecimal so change to Decimal then change the decimal value from 9000 to 11000.
Note : If you don't have FMPA then it will show FileMaker Pro.exe
That is a great solution! Thanks, it works now.
Now I also understand the system behind webviewer.
