I have used it to launch my app in iOS 5-8. Each new iOS release needed updated code to get it to work. I would not be surprised if it does not work at all in the latest iOS versions:
You could use this web page to create the Web Clip - works well..... On your device just go to: http://appdistro.cttapp.com/webclip/
For URL, enter: fmp://%7e/MyDatabaseApp
...where 'MyDatabaseApp is the name of the FileMaker file you have in FileMaker Go.
You can browse your Photos for an icon, or enter a URL to fetch it from...
Then follow through the profile installation steps and you are done :-)
Only slightly annoying thing is that when your database file gets opened in FMGo, the 'back to app' link at the top-left of the iOS display has the link back to the Web Clip, but this goes away if you switch to another app and back again....
it will also create a profile - similar to the 'AppMaker' method. Since we had to rebuild those 'icons' for every new iOS, we dropped that (truely elegant) way to handle FileMaker Go app's )-:
would be great to get a standalone 'icon' from within FileMaker - but we just use FileMaker's 'Start-Center' now
at the beginning of FIAS, I created some app's that way - won't run under iOS10, so we stopped that method as well. The cycle for new iOS releases, combined with the FM cycle makes live hard...

I'm still using the AppMaker with no issues. Works as expected.
