A couple of notes on this:
1. For your own benefit, I would post questions like this to the Discussions space. You will get more attention there, since the Report a Product Issue space is for bugs within the FileMaker software.
2. Imports absolutely need to be aligned. How are you importing? It is scripted using a button or something on a layout ( for example, already done for you )? Or are you using the File > Import Records menu item? Or are you making a script an in the Import script step and can't see the fields on the left side of the import dialog?

I am importing an .xls document that is already made for me. In Filemaker, I selected Import File, File, and then selected the document from the desktop. I am using one of the starter solutions, Contacts App.
In the Import dialog box, you can physically move the FileMaker Pro fields so that they match up to the correct Excel columns/fields. Once that is done, then click Import, and the Excel data will move to the proper FileMaker Pro fields.
Ok, perfect. sounds so simple.
How can I delete all of the imported records? I only have these records in the program but it will not let me select them all, in Contact Details and in Contacts...
