Why not put it in the tab panel?
you can then make a copy of the filtered portal, reduce it to a single row and insert the found count symbol into the portal row.
If you precisely position the one row portals, it will look like you have a single count that changes each time you change tabs.
Thanks a lot Philmodjunk. I followed the approach you suggested in another FM solution I created last year. But in this case, I was hoping to find a way to make the Get(FoundCount) field work outside the panels and for all tabs because I have practically no space left in the panels. But if there is no other way, I'll try and squeeze the count field somewhere in the panels.
But I find bigtom's idea of using only one portal worth pursuing. Could one of you provide a few explanations on how to implement it.
I usually set global variable using a drop down to select what I want to see. Set the portal filter calc to:
YourFieldForFilter = $$global
Usually requires a refresh portal step on object modify for the drop down.
There are other ways to do a similar thing, but this does work.
Thank You very much.
Could be a global field.
And global field could be used as a match field in a relationship instead of as a portal filter expression.
The relationship is a better way I think, but the OP asked about portal filtering.
ok, I now have only one portal with records being filtered with buttons (one for each type of documents to be displayed). It works fine but there is still one problem: how do I suppress all filters so that I can display all documents with the All Documents button? My portal filter is Documents::TypeDocument = $$document.
Use one of these two options:
• ( Documents::TypeDocument = $$document ) or IsEmpty( $$document )
• ( Documents::TypeDocument = $$document ) or ( $$document = "All" )
With best regards Magnus Fransson.
Thanks very much. Works great.
I’ve decided to filter my portal with radio buttons, it makes for a much cleaner approach.
So I have created a new text field, put it on my layout and formatted it as radio buttons using values from a value list.
I then changed the portal filter to Evaluate ( Documents::DocumentsFilter ) and attached a trigger OnObjectModify to the radio buttons field that does Commit Records/Requests.
But it doesn’t work. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.
Evaluate ( Documents::DocumentsFilter )
What exactly are you putting in the DocumentsFilter field?
Evaluate expects text that can be evaluated as a calculation much like the "text" you put into a calculation editor so I'm not sure what you are putting in that field and why you are using evaluate.
the filter field is populated with terms like Audio Course, Mid-Term Exam, Final Exam, Essay, etc. The idea is to then filter the portal based on these types of documents.
It seemed to me that Evaluate was appropriate as the terms are in fact text.
