I checked previous inquiries and none of them fit my situation; there's nothing special that I can see about the fields that don't populate.
Nothing quite so mysterious. I remembered that I set the script up that way to leave fields empty that should be left empty on "duplication." Sorry for wasting your time. I am new to this and working this DB on so many fronts I get lost occasionally.
are the fields that don't duplicate in your local table?
If the record has a field set up for automatic entry of values, this script step does not duplicate the value in the field of the current record. In that case, FileMaker Pro generates and enters a new value for the duplicated record.
I would double-check all fields with options.

The "omitted" fields are not auto-enter or anything special.
I put omitted in quotes because I believe the data is there but just not displayed. (When I search for that field as empty, nothing turns up.)
Are they an incorrect field type or the formatting different such that the data does not "appear" to be there?
Can you export the record to CSV & view in text editor or Excel?
Duplicating records and properly searching for empty fields are things that consistently work In FileMaker. Can you post a sample file that demonstrates the problem? Are the fields in question, fields from a related table? If yes, they will not be included in the duplication.
The references to fields from a related table in various replies are somewhat misleading here.
It it is quite True that duplicating a record does not duplicate data in a related record, BUT the duplicate record should still match to the same set of related records as the original unless the match field of the duplicate record gets a different value than that of the original.
That takes you back to the other possible cause previously mentioned: auto-enter field options. A field defined to enter a serial number or a field with an auto-enter calculation where the "do not replace..." option is not selected, can enter/calculate a new value in the duplicated record. This can in turn break the link to related records, cause other fields that calculate values from it to calculate new values, or it can directly produce a blank field.
So so as others have suggested, check the auto-enter options for your fields.
I hate when that happens! I also script a duplication that clears certain fields. But standard menu/shortcut Duplicate is not tied to the the script (ala custom menus), behaves normally.
