I have a drop down list based on a number field. It is version numbers. It list the data in ascending order. I need it to list it in descending order, the most recent version first.
Try using a selection portal--which can be sorted in descending order instead of ascending.
you might be able to make an invisible second sort field to work, but it's potentially problematic as "the most recent" value will keep changing.
Substitute ( 10^(1000-numberFieldHere ) - 1 ; "9" ; " " )
Make this the second field and choose the option to sort on the second field. but note that there's an upper, maximum value at which this will fail where a sorted selection portal will still work.
1000 is too large, 10^400 is the max number.
Thanks for the correction.
Note that this puts an upper limit of 400 on the value of the number field used in the expression. This need not be the upper limit of the values in the value list, however as the number field used to control the sort order need not be the same field used as the source of values for the first field of this value list. Thus, 400 represents the maximum number of items that can be listed in your value list If you use this method.
100 is the maximum number.
FileMaker Pro 15 Help : Finding duplicate values
When determining uniqueness in text fields, FileMaker Pro looks at the first 100 characters in each field.
But by using binary number, you can greatly increase the upper limit. (Logically up to 2^100)
