Trouble with externally stored containers

Good day, all. I have recently inherited a database from a developer who was kind enough not to provide the developer credentials when he left. The database has a couple of tables with externally-stored container assets, set to secure storage. At present, the system is throwing a "container fields cannot be exported" error when attempting to access the containers. (Export Field Contents is ghosted on the contextual menu.)

I am only able to access the production system with [Data Entry Only] privileges. Theoretically, I should be able to export the assets. I am unable (I expect as a result of the Export Field Contents not being happy) to import the records into an offline copy.

The users need these assets recovered. Any ideas on what I can try? We're hosted on Server 15, recently relocated from a 12 server. (I have asked the customer if the assets were accessible on the 12 server; that might give us a clue.)
