My question was how to do the import from the other Post I tried the auto calc unsuccessfully that is the reason for the inquiry. I don't use all the information from the excel files and to clarify filemaker does not calculate the same I have read this in other posts. My question remains how do I import a large number and parse to a 4 digit on import?
hooe me this clarifies my dilemma
Unless you apply the same rounding to both Excel and FileMaker, you're going to still run the risk of different results. And it's never good when managers start wondering about the numbers. ;-)
can you tell me the technique or not?
Have you tried a number field with an Auto-Enter Calculated Value of:
Round ( Self; 4 )
Make sure to turn off the setting "Do not replace existing value of field."
I haven't done this via import, just data entry, so can't guarantee it will trigger then, but it's what I'd try.

When you set up the impoart, either manual or scripted, once you have mapped the excel columns to FileMaker fields, you get a little dialog popping up where one of the options is to "enable auto enter options". You need to select this option for your import in order for the auto-enter calculation to evaluate during the import.
You also need to clear the "do not replace..." check box on the auto-enter option.
