(not IsEmpty (Foote_YCAT_date)) and (IsEmpty(custom_gesell_ca_date))
; 1; ""
I was hoping that would do it. I tried adding the parenthesis you suggested, but it's still returning "":
Case ( (not IsEmpty (Foote_YCAT_date)) and (IsEmpty(custom_gesell_ca_date)) ; 1 ;
Any other ideas? I've closed and re-opened the database. And the field works fine as long as I don't use the 'and' in the conditional portion of the CASE statement.
Note that it worked perfectly for me. I copy/pasted your expression and then just edited to use the fully qualified field references required in the data viewer.
Did you perhaps set this up as an auto-entered calculation?
plenty of other ideas, like
Case ( GetAsBoolean(not isEmpty(...)) + GetAsBoolean(IsEmpty(...)) = 2; 1; "")
but I wonder if the 2 dates are somewhat related in field definition, as one depending on the other ?
Wow, how did I miss that? I thought I had done a "replace field contents"
and hadn't even gone back to check on that.
Dumb mistake, but thanks very much for putting up with and helping me out.
Moments like this make the learning sink in much more deeply since I don't
want to make that kind of mistake again.

This was it. They were definitely related even though I thought I had done a "replace field contents"
