I would like to create a pop over button that shows all the records and have the possibility to go to a record in that list by selecting it. Is this possible?
1. Create a self-join relationship that will show all records (cartesian join, using the X operator)
2. On the popover set up a portal using that relationship
3. Put a button on the portal row that selects the specific record on that portal row and finds it.
With such a "selection portal", it's often useful to build in some dynamic filtering to produce various sublists or to more easily find the specific listed entry that you want.
You can find several different examples of working selection portals--each with detailed documentation on how they work and how they were set up in this teaching file:
Adventures in FileMaking #2-enhanced value selection
That is a great way to learn Filemaker! Is there also an Adventure part 1? Thanks for making this!
The file includes a download link for Adventure #1 if you click "Additional Resources", #1 has numerous working examples of different kinds of conditional value lists.
Please note the "Geek Busking" info on the intro layout found in both files.
Thanks, I saw it just. now. I found the file via your facebook page. Nice job.
If you are using FM 16, this is a great use of the "Cards" no self joins needed
Hadn't thought of that. Thanks.
I am on FM 15, and I can't get it to work which is because of my lack of experience. The rest of the program works as I wanted it though, so I am very happy with the results. I will keep on reading/tryinging out till I get it
I got this to work. I now have a record browser in a popup menu, following this great youtube tutorial:
