there is enough diskspace available?
.fp5 has a max of 2GB per file. If one file exceedes, You're out of luck (besides of a backup) IMHO
Create a copy of the file, try to open it, maybe on another OS - if it opens in every way, create a clone, save as a compressed copy, try to delete records via relationship...
Try to migrate to .fp7, there's no longer that limit. You should be able to get a demo version of FileMaker 11, maybe You have to ask FileMaker support for a V11
We have had that too - migrating to a newer version was the solution, but I don't recall if we were able to migrate the to big file (we have had a lot a backups..)
Thanks, Markus. Disk space on computer is fine. Had wondered about size of file....have backups via DropBox and Carbonite but they're of the same file so they're probably full too. Will try to find someone with another OS. Have wanted to upgrade but have been too chicken....started using this in 1995 and felt there were too many related files and that I'd lose data....and now here I am losing data! :-(
You have not yet described the size of this particular file, and that is one of the questions.
I had just added records to the file and the size column says 2,097,150 KB. The back up I brought over from Carbonite says 538,880 KB but I couldn't get the master file to open it....I could be doing it incorrectly.
