# Insert Tax Value By Calculation

@Hello Friend,

I have an field name in contacts table as Tax Type GST 18% . In this field any one tax value from two types of tax values to be inserted 1- CGST 9% & SGST 9% or  2- IGST 18%. What calculation would be there if in contacts table Company State field have an  value as M.P. than in Tax Type GST 18% field -- CGST 9% & SGST 9% should be inserted otherwise -- IGST 18% will be inserted there.

Thanks

Can you please simply your question to be more generic and have less "CGST/SGST" terms?

The posting, while well written, will be confusing to many.

From what I gather from your posting, it sounds like you may just need a calculated field with some basic "if" logic, however.

Ditto. I am also assuming that CGST 9% & SGST 9% is actually "CGST 9% & SGST 9%" and not some other concatenated value.

Yes both are tax category if I sold goods within a state than tax ( CGST 9% + SGST 9% ) Will be charged and if I sold outside state than tax ( IGST 18% ) will be charged. So my assumption is that if I select company whose city name is within a state ( my state field is M.P.) than through calculation or by any other method in tax type field shall be as ( CGST 9% + SGST 9% ) and if instead of my state some another states are there than tax type  field will be ( IGST 18% ).

Sorry for my less and confusion details.

My first question is do have to calculate the two 9%s as separate values and add them together or are they calculated as 18%?

It seems a simple calculation along these lines would work.

If MyState = CustomerState

then  TaxType = "CGST 9% + SGST 9%"

Else TaxType = "IGST 18%"

edit removed extra =  statement

Thanks for your Reply,Yes in TaxType  field it will be as  ( CGST 9% + SGST 9% ) or ( IGST 18% ). Secondly while putting the above said expression in calculate field of tax type its showing error. Here is pic view

Syntax is wrong for FM If( ).

FileMaker Pro 16 Help

Should look something more like this:

If (MyState = CustomerState; "CGST 9% + SGST 9%"; "IGST 18%")

Thanks Friend,

Work fine

Sorry I confused you. I was just giving the logic of what you needed, not how FM needed it, not knowing if you were using it as field def. or in a script.
