Are you using the entry method within a "Form" Layout?
If so create your "value List"
File> Manage > Value List
Add target field to the entry Form Layout
Use inspector (control+i or View>Inspector while in edit layout mode) and change field > control style to "drop down"
Change Values from to reference new Value List
Access combo boxes put FileMaker value lists to shame. But we know of ways to get there all the same with other approaches.
I suggest posting a lot more detail about what you have attempted and how it's failing for you if the previous post wasn't enough to get this working for you.
To me this is a simple data base
School Code School Name
Departure Early Diss Trans
Early Diss No Trans
1,2, 4 I have lists from access that I converted into filemaker.
No drop down box appear.
In layout I show that Date, Departure, Early Diss Trans, Early Diss No Trans and Notes "Table Missing".
This should be the new database direct entry
Did you use Manage Value Lists to create a value list?
Did you format a field to use that value list?
Can you attach file and i can take a look? If not screenshots would help show the end goal
no thank you. this really helps me learn more
I ended up changing how things were set up, and made some major assumptions. I did this very quickly just so you have an idea of how filemaker works. I recommend that when you have time, to look through and see how things were done. I can explain if needed, and/or Im sure there are much more advance users that can assist
This is just a rough start and can be greatly improved upon to meet your process & goals
SCHOOL MAIN.zip 138.4 K
I added time field and on the input screen I labeled it PICKUP TIME.
I made the screen size bigger and moved the other fields and trash can.
When we add the pickup time "12:00 PM" it went into all of the time fields shown and not the one specific record.

I suspect that the time field was added to the "School Table" and not the "School_Remarks" or "Remarks". Where you add the pickup time depends on your structure. Adding to the School_Remarks will provide the flexibility to manually enter any value. Whereas adding the Pickup field to the "Remarks" table will only allow a static value for each "remark"
ex. If schools have different schedules I would add the Pickup field to the "School_Remarks" vs if ALL " early closings" have a pickup time of 2pm then add it to the "Remarks"
Of course this could be expanded depending on your situation. an example would to add open-close times for each school in the "School" table then use some calculations in the "School_Remarks" and "Remarks" table. This will then allow you to select something along the lines of " 2hr early dismissal" and auto populate the pickup time that is specific to that school.
Double check to make sure the pickup_time field is in the right table and set to field type of Time.
What is going on in the input layout is that
1) the layout is using the School table, which only contains the school code and school name
2) A few script triggers & tricks were added to make the school records "searchable" by name but not editable, but what it really is doing is searching for "school codes" and pulls the School Name (so you dont have to remember Codes)
3) The layout utilizes a "portal" to pull related records from the "School_Remarks" table and displays them in a list format. i.e. it matches the records of School::School_code = School_Remarks::School_Code and Only displays the related records
Maybe you would be willing to help me again?
I have been working with the report and trying to make it come out like what I did in access.
I have not had any luck. Maybe fresh eyes may show a better report.
Attached is the old report. I would enter a date range. I also would print double sided.
I deleted the can databases that came with the program. Contact, Invoices.
Am I able to download them.
Sure I can try. I am new to FMP and use this platform as a way to learn. So if i find a solution or offer advice it may not be a "best practice" approach. I will take a look in a bit, and post back here with any questions or solutions and try to convey them in a way that makes sense, (and hopefully get some feedback from more advance users)
