Do you have to separate FileMaker Server or did you just move all files from OS 10.10.3 to OS 10.12.5?
Thank you for your response. We are in the process of upgrading our FileMaker sever. We have an old FileMaker 12 server and we are moving all the database to FileMaker 15 server. Because we had external storage for the container field, we copied all the data folder from 12 server to 15 server. We kept the same the secure storage folder/directory name between the two servers.
It took a while for the pdf to show up on OS 10.10.3. When I browsed through them, FileMaker 15 crashed twice.
On OS 10.12.5, it says "initializing..." but it did not get through for the first record and it was all blank for the corresponding container field in the rest of the records.
What is happening and what do I miss? Any hint or suggestions will be highly appreciated!
To be 100% sure when it comes to moving externally stored container files, I would first embed them into FileMaker, then move the file and then on the new server set container fiels to be stores externally again
Thank you for your suggestions.
In order to isolate the problem, I tried to embed pdf file directly into FileMaker 15 on Mac OS 10.12.5 and I can see the file name using the function getAsText but the pdf itself was blank. I can see the pdf file on Mac OS 10.10.3. It is so confusing. I also set the default reader for pdf as Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I am thinking to repost the problem for the simple version.

Happily reporting that the problem has been solved by removing AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin in the folder of [Hard Disk] -> Library -> Internet Plug-Ins on Mac OS 10.12.
The pdf files are appearing as expected now in the container field both in external storage and in local storage.
