I just purchase version 16 and can't seem to access my database currently in version 12. Any advice?
Thank you for your post!
FileMaker Pro 12 and FileMaker Pro 16 are both in the .fmp12 format. FileMaker Pro 16 should generally open those files without issue. Are you receiving an error when trying to open a file?
Yes, I am. The message I'm getting is "The account and password you entered cannot be used to access this file. Please try again."
So, your file has an Account Name and Password. This would not change moving from FileMaker Pro 12 to FileMaker Pro 16.
The default Account Name and Password for a file is Admin with no password (leave password field blank). You might start by trying this.
Do you remember ever entering credentials in FileMaker Pro 12?
Are you the only user of this file or is there someone else you could ask about potential credentials?
I tried the default name and password and it didn't work. I know the password and we didn't have an account name. The database is hosted or housed on my computer and co-workers access it remotely.
I can still open it via FileMaker Pro 12. So, I still have access to the database.
If this has existed Pre-FileMaker Pro 12 you might check the suggestions in Changes that occur to your passwords during file conversion
The FileMaker Pro 12 file would have an Account Name, even if it is the same as the password.
I've gotten it to work now! Thanks so much for your help!
