Since installing FM16 we have had an issue on some not all systems in which the launcher will not associate to FM16.
Do you mean that it would use a different version of FileMaker ?
Some of the systems would associate to FM16 the others simply would not open anything. Working with our IT to try and find the root cause and a solution We are using system center to roll out 16 and uninstall 15.
Looks like the .fmp12 extension is not associated to FMP16. There are 3 ways to do it:
- Right-click on an .fmp12 file, pick Open with..., select MFP16 and don't forget to check Always use this application...
- From the control panel - I can't show you since I run Windows 10
- From the command line, see How to change the default program a file opens with in Windows 7
I bet the problem is that you are installing 16 and then uninstalling 15. When you uninstall any version it breaks some of the file associations and protocols.
Try reversing the order. Uninstall 15 and then install 16. I bet that fixes the problem.
For those installations that are broken open Add/Remove Programs and choose FM Pro 16 > Modify > Repair
Also, a desktop shortcut with this syntax should connect to the hosted DB:
10.20.30.40 is IP address or name of the server hosting the DB and filename is the name of the FM database file you want to connect to.
