Script triggers do work in Find mode. Maybe you didn't click the "Enable in: find" checkbox? Or maybe you're using the wrong trigger. Try OnLayoutEnter.
Or, add Enter Browse Mode to your Main Menu navigation script.
The best way is to remove the toolbar all together and only allow searches through scripting. You'll also have to create some custom menus to remove Ctrl + F, entering Find Mode.
In many cases a find button or search icon would open a small window to enter search criteria, and then clicking 'Search' button in that window gathers the criteria, performs the search. Can also sort and give a message if no criteria is found.
I've heard of people putting a big label
YOU ARE IN FIND MODE
and using the "Hide object when" to make it only appear in the background only for find mode
Get(WindowMode) ≠ 1 // hide for all modes except Find
Remember to select the "Apply in Find Mode"
Then train users how to get back to Browse.
That's it! Thanks.
Create a script that checks for find mode. When user clicks button before action it runs this subscript. If in find mode go to browse mode and does button action or give message to user they are in find mode. This is one way to check.
"it" is what? Tom has many great suggestions. For future reference to those with the same question, can you specify what worked?

Oh sorry. Beverly, what worked was to select "Apply in Find Mode". I did not have that turned on.
Thanks to each of you for the great suggestions. Several of the ideas I will incorporate into future development.
