AFAIK, the web links to the "latest" is always advisable, as it should be for any product not just this software company.
However, there are links to documentation back to FileMaker Pro 3! (and Bento documentation):

but there is link for "For older product versions" at the bottom which Beverly wrote.
"Filemaker pro help" is not web link on FM14, and on FM15 redirect to page for FM15 on my test.
Do you use English version?
I always have to specify the version when I search (google):

Searching Google for FM help was pretty bad, but they seem to have made some changes recently. I used to get a lot of 12 and 13 results even when specifying 16 in the search.
Past that the help archive / kb is not so good. The html help files that ship with the product are good.
