How to import enriched text (i.e. from MS Word with bold, italic or underlined text) in to a test field?
It can be copy and pasted.
Roger that, but the copy and paste does not retain the italic, bold or underlined words in the text??
Yes it does, unless you specifically prevent it.
Hummm... Well, when I copy a sentence (i.e. the cat ran under the house to get the mouse: what a mistake) AND go to a text field in FMP, it paste the text, it pastes as (the cat ran under the house to get the mouse: what a mistake)?? Is there a feature to toggle that on/off?
Are you perhaps using an older version of FileMaker in Windows?
A common request here is how to keep the formatting from pasting with the text. There's a function that we often use in an auto-enter calculation to strip out the formatting to get plain text.
I am using Filemaker Pro Advanced 9.0v1
When you are asking a question about an older version of FileMaker, it helps us to help you if you tell us that fact. Otherwise, you might get assistance that does not apply to your version--as has just happened here.
I predict that you are also using FileMaker on a Windows machine. For several older versions, the default "paste" action is "paste unformatted text" if you are using FileMaker in Windows. They changed this (many think in the wrong way), in later versions so that you get the same results for both operating systems.
I think that if you use "paste special" from the edit menu, you can get an option that pastes the text with formatting included. I am answering from memory as I don't have a version that old immediately at hand.
Sorry, I am on a Windos-7 OS and realize the version is an older one. I did try the "paste special," and it has an option menu. But, on "paste un-formatted is in the dialog bus---as if "paste enriched" could be there...but????
I tried copying text from MS Word (The rain in Spain flow mainly on the plain). Next, I went to a text field in FileMakerPro Advance, 9.0v1. I used the edit>> Paste Special>> Paste. It pasted as (The rain in Spain flow mainly on the plain). The bold, underline and italic did not paste.
There was a Paste Special duologue box with a onion (Unformatted Text) but no apparent way to select “paste formatted” or “paste enriched “ text.
Am I missing something?
Mainly we are missing something, few of us have a copy of FileMaker that old to test and you are reporting an issue that does not exist in current versions. Simply upgrading to a newer version will resolve this issue and given the extreme age of the version that you are using, this is something you will need to do sooner or later as there is no guarantee that future OS updates won't cause your solution to fail.
I thought that there was a way back then to use Paste Special, but it appears that my memory was not correct in this case.
I don't have 9 on my desktop any more, but the documentation for older versions is here:
I could not find anything on paste (with style) in the User Guide. Perhaps @jlhfbo can take a screen shot of what's being seen?
Other than pointers to old docs and the fading memories of those that used to use it, there is little help that can be done! So I agree, if it's possible to upgrade at all, there's much more likely to be support from this forum and elsewhere!
Usually I don't like to say "your soft is old, so you should upgrade" (since newer versions have thier new bugs), but I had seen the feature is not working on old versions, and working in FM16 now.
