I use a 64-bit PC, but Filemaker 64-bit won't run on it. Why?
can your provide more information please ? Did FMP installed correctly (error messages) ? If installed, then what happens when you start it ?
It did install correctly, no error messages. When started, you can see in the Task Manager that it begins to load in the background for about 15 to 20 seconds (at least the first time after installation) and then just stops. When it stops there is no error message, nothing, and the app disappears from the background processes.
The PC is running Windows 10 Pro, v1703, with an Intel x64-based processor, 16GB RAM. The FM installer is fmp-126.96.36.1992_x64.exe.
So the FM closes out after running for some time with no errors displayed.
Did you have a look at the Windows log to see if you can find hints ? I just don't get how the app would get killed without any entries in the log(s).
Did you try on a different computer also 64-bit ?
14.0.6? Any reason not to move up to FM16?
You might see if you can get an installer that is v1 and then then update from there?
Have you tried to re-install?
Have you ever had a previous version of FileMaker installed on your system? In particular did you ever have a 32 bit version previously installed?
What version of .net do you have installed?
What version of C++ Redistribution package?
Assuming no plug-ins since a new install but 99% of the time of FM crashing on opening I have find the issue being incompatible plug-ins
I have 14.0.6 64-bit running on Windows 10 without any issues. What may break FM install without telling:
try turning off the antivirus before install.
Try right clicking the installer and tell it to "run as administrator" even if you are using an Admin account.
It seems to me that the best thing at this point (with the 32-bit working) is to install the 64-bit when I upgrade to FM 16. The event viewer has all sorts of entries about installing FM, uninstalling FM, but nothing that tells me why the 64-bit FM wouldn't load. I'm not a programmer, so entries like "NULL" with a bunch of numbers means zip to me. There are a bunch of "information" entries noting FM installed correctly for each time I re-tried installing the 64-bit, with a few "warning" entries that only mention "synchost".
I would bet that one of the files it need to load is corrupt. I would suggest uninstalling FM, reboot the computer, then reinstall FMP. Windows will prevent software from being installed if Windows has not completed an updated, this type update usually requires a reboot to finish installing the update.
