I cannot figure out how to get the match field in the portal to autopopulate that value from the match field!
If you enable "creation" for the portal's table occurrence in the relationship on which this is based, then simply entering data into any other field of the portal's table located in the portal row will copy the data from the match field(s) of the current record in the layout's found set into the corresponding match field(s) of the new portal record.
Thank you! Can I delete a record in the portal? Or do I have to go to the table itself?
Yes you can delete a record from the portal if you enable that option in portal setup. Many developers put a button with a trash can icon into the portal row and set it to perform the "delete portal row" script step.
Thank you! Go it figured out! Now I need help setting up a join table. I have 2 tables: Gardens and Contacts. Each Garden can have multiple contacts, and each Contact can be associated with many Gardens. I've Created a join table called GardenContact, to which I've added the match fields:GardenCode and ContactCode, both of which are number, indexed, auto-enter serial, can't modify auto.
My goal is to be able to:
1. add a portal to my Gardens layout showing all the contacts associated with that garden
2. Run a report showing Contacts and all the gardens they are associated with
I think I am missing something...
Hint: You can do screen captures from your keyboard, you don't actually need a camera. (In windows, you can use the print screen button to copy screen to clipboard, then paste into a paint program.)
1. From a gardens layout, you can add either a portal to Contacts or a portal to GardenContacts to your layout. If you plan on adding/removing contacts, use a portal to GardenContacts. GC_ContactCode would be set up with a value list for selecting contacts for the current Garden. A portal to GardenContacts can include fields from Contacts.
2. Many reports are created as a list view from the context of the Join table. (from a layout based on GardenContacts)
Such a layout can include fields from both of the other tables (Gardens and Contacts)
As mentioned by Phil; and as noted in your other thread; it is better to use other methods for screen capture.
Your original file, above, is 3.7MB.
But even if posting camera-source images, you can have pity on us and reduce the file size.
This reduced-size version of your camera-based image is 82kb.
