Help with value list

I have a table with names and abbreviations for books. 

Reptiles - REP

History - HIST

Transportation & Engineering - T/E

 

I need one field to enter the full name and I need another field to show the abbreviation.

I would like the abbreviation field to be automatic once the name field is chosen. How can I set up that calculation?

Does the table of names & abbreviations need to be related to the Book table?
