I have a large archive of people and want to link/associate photographs to those records and I also want to add text in association with photographs for example listing the people of things in the photo
Some more of the larger picture would be helpful...
Are the photos already in FMP?
In a separate table?
As part of the file or stored by reference?
What version are you running?
Hosted or stand-alone?
Please round out the full picture for us ... that way you can get useful answers...
You really haven't asked a question here, just described your project.
What's the specific issue for which you want assistance?
Sorry was trying to make the question simple,
I will answer in detail tomorrow but to give you some idea of the potential scope of this task.
The data base has 9500 records, the primary collection of photos is around 750, the large collection is 350,000. The first problem is that while I have had the FileMaker Pro 12 for quite a while the photos have only recently been passed across and I am still in the process of indexing the primary collection which is .jpg. The much large is grouped alphabetically in large folders also in .jpg. I dont know how to get the photos in FMP is that short for File Maker Pro or a .fmp ?
Thanks for responding
A simple way to pull a large number of photos into FileMaker is to use Import Records with the Folder option. This will import every photo in a given folder into a container field, one record to each photo. There is additional information about the photo, such as the file name that can be imported into other fields at the same time. You can look up Import Records in FileMaker help to learn more.
The task is to attach photos to particular records, primary ones directly so that when that record is opened the photos there if not necessary visible. The large collection ideally linked relationally. Does this make sense.
This is new hence not asking a question until I had a better idea of what was possible, I wanted to find out if and how I could insert or attach photos to particular records within a data base.
I have to sign off now will be back a.m. tomorrow.
Many thanks for help so far
Once you have used Import Records to create a table of photos with one photo to a record you can use relationships and the file name to link these records to specific records in your original table.
