Conditionally hiding a field is straightforward in inspector. Why is conditionally blocking field entry not available without writing a script, or am i missing something obvious?
Inspector allows you to control access via the checkboxes for Field Entry - Browse Mode and Find Mode.
If you have one control that is set to allow access and one that is set to prevent access then you can use the hide object when condition to control which control is availalbe to the user.
Stack them right on top of each other and, if you are using web direct, pay attention to which one is on top because WD does NOT allow click through of stacked objects.
If you need to control when a user can edit a value then a field level edit permission calculation can be build into the privilege set.
Be sure to vote on this product idea: NOT EDIT FIELD WHEN
Thanks for the work around. It is more straight forward than scripting
