hi, what is the language of file maker?
Can you explain a bit more what you want to know?
To develop on the FM platform does not use a 'known' language; it is a set of proprietary tools like its Script Workspace and Layout mode,...
If you want to know what programming languages the FMI engineers use to create the FileMaker platform: a mix of programming languages I'm sure, but that's not too important to know.
Which language would you like? XML/XSLT, REST like API, xDBC, FQL, ?
FileMaker is a desktop database its own scripting environment; this scripting language can i turn call any language via plugins or web interface / REST APIs / SOAP / and the likes
there are many so called programming paradigms used by FMP as a development platform.
• FM scripts are closest to procedural or imperative programming
• custom function are functional programming as well as the ExecuteSQL function within the declarative programming paradigm
• the TOG (table occurrence graph) and database definition are data flow control and partially predicative programming
• there are also object oriented programming techniques in place like in layout design within themes and styles
The funniest thing about FileMaker; I think, is the ability to combine relationships with layouts and achieve a OLAP / CUBE-like feature. With no programming what so ever.
Or making relationship joins without ever having to know how to write a SQL statement.
Or changing the object styles & positions in Inspector without every having to know anything about CSS.
I was said by someone working at FMI that all that concerns layouts is made in Java, HTML and CSS.
It's why there is not a lot of problem when running in a web browser.
