More out of curiosity than necessity - but how do you mark a discussion as locked - and is it only the originator that can do so?

Yep and I've just told you how and why. The last post in the thread is by Steve Romig and he explains why he locked it.
I doubt that anyone but someone with forum monitor privileges could do that, if the purpose is to prevent additional posts to that thread. So if a discussion goes off the rails and is moving more and more into TOS violations, they can shut it down to bring a halt to the discussion.
The Why do I keep hearing that runtimes may end? thread is locked.
I'll stop being curious for now .
