How can I display blank field details when a portal is empty?

I have two portals properties and jobs.  When I select a property I run a script which displays the full property details and then selects the first row of the related jobs portal and displays the full job details.  However if there are no jobs for a particular property the last job detail persists.  The problem is how to blank the job detail fields to reflect no job.

I could individually hide all the fields if the first row selection returned an appropriate error (101) but this is too much work.

I have a work around where i have created a blank job and if the error is returned I address it.  It works but surely there is a better way?
