HI Folks, I have to create for different customers a Long survey of 58 questions and some are multiple choices and other check box and drop down list, could someone help me with ideas? thanks a lot.
First thing I would do is make the survey questions a separate tables—one record per question. In the survey itself you would then simply assemble questions and determine to response process required for each question.
There are web services that specialize in on line surveys. You might use one of them for your surveys and use API calls to integrate them into your solution.
If you search this forum using “survey” or “questionnaire“ keywords, you should find several discussions that document how to do this using just Filemaker if you decide on that approach.
The difficulty with FileMaker List view is the "sliding" does NOT happen in Browse (entry/edit) mode. If you have long questions or answer boxes (or variety of answer types), then you must make the record/row the tallest possible (Q & A). This will, of course leave a lot of blank spacing.
I might have a "list view" with the questions (truncated) and the answers (text, also truncated). Then a click on the row pops a dialog/window for showing the question and perhaps slide panels for the various answer types.
The other option, I have used is an HTML version in the Web Viewer or to an external server to complete the survey and post the answers back to the database. Knowledge of HTML is helpful, but once designed, you can provide a means for your users to create questions (and any possible answers).
philmodjunk is correct: many answers on this forum (& elsewhere) if you search for those keywords!
