Can someone provide instructions for changing our address in Filemaker Pro 12? We have had our IT company try to figure it out but they were not able to.
FileMaker is a tool for creating custom solutions. We'd need to know how your particular solution (database) was created in order to advise you. There isn't any one general answer that we can give you other than if this address was entered into database fields (and this may not be the case) the address can be modified by editing the data in that field.
I'm not sure how the db was created. If the db fields you mention are the fields in particular screens in filemaker, that is not the situation. Our business address shows up on the contracts we generate in Filemaker. We can't find where that address resides in Filemaker and so cannot edit it. I assume that when the db was first set up, someone entered that info. I've been through all areas in the software - our IT company did same - still no obvious way to edit our address. I can provide a phone number if its easier to speak directly Thanks for any help you can offer.
The data still may or may not be in fields.
Do you have a full access password to use to open the file and make design changes? You may not be able to make the needed changes without such a password.
There are two common ways that such data may have been entered:
a) There's a table somewhere in your system with fields where you can enter this info and then the system makes that info appear on your layouts where needed. The fact that you can't directly edit the data on the layout could mean that the developer correctly blocked the ability to edit this data on the layouts where you normally see it as a way to protect the data from accidental or malicious changes.
b) The information was simply entered as layout text directly into the layout when in Layout mode.
In the case of a) there should be a layout where you can edit this information. That layout could be hidden though such that only a particular script (for non "full access users") brings up that layout or you might need to enter layout mode before using either the layout drop down or manage | Layouts to find the relevant layout. It's less likely but still possible that no such layout exists and one needs to be created for this purpose.
In the case of b) you have to enter layout mode (the mode used to design and modify the layout) and then you use the text tool to edit the information. If you have multiple layouts that show this info, you would have to do this once for every layout being careful to put in exactly the same info on each layout. This is why most experienced developers would not do it this way as with fields, you can then make the change once and have it appear updated on all layouts.
So the real key to all of this is whether you can gain developer level access to the file or not as this is usually need in order to go into layout mode to change a layout, or to look for a layout that doesn't otherwise appear in the layout drop down or to add one if it turns out that it is needed.
If you can enter layout mode on the layout where you see this address, upload a screen shot as that can help us to at least tell you if this info is in a field or is layout text.
