I'm trying to create a list of block of texts which contains enter character in itself. How can I create such list since enter character is the separator of value for the list.
In simple terms how can I create an array in filemaker?
What will you do with this list? A variable can be set up as an array and there are multiple methods for setting up a “list”.
What I'm trying to do is store the related values in a list. Then get random a random value out of this list. I'll be using that list multiple times within the running script.
A variable can have repetitions. You can set each repetition to a different value in your list and use array notation to access the desired value.
Unlike a repeating field, the number of repetitions is not fixed.
It’s also possible to use substitute to replace internal returns with a different character so that returns only separate values, then use substitute to put the returns back after extracting a single value.
Thanks phil. Is there any function to know the number of counts in the repetition variable.
For example, if the variable has 1,2,3 repetition then can I count the repetition variable with something like:
which should return 3.
Apparently not. But why would you need to here?
A repeating variable will make for faster data access once you've loaded in all the values, but they have to be set one repetition at a time so you can count the number of values at the time that you set them. You could also count the set of records from which you get the data in the first place.
Thanks phil. I was just wondering if there's any such function just in case. I'll count the value at the time when I set them.
