Why is Filemaker Cloud 16 only compatible with version 16 (Advanced) clients?

This is just how FM Cloud is. The Cloud platform requires that all clients be FM16. This includes FMP 16, FMPA 16 and FMGo 16.
I believe FM Cloud 1.15 only supports FM15 clients.
All right but what's the technical reason for this? On a normal v16 server I can log in with an earlier version without problems. All it takes is paying attention to functionality differences, but thats on the app level.
There may be no technical reason.
And since you can download the matching client from the FM Cloud admin console it's probably not too big a deal for most people.
No big deal, true. But it would be practical if they were just a little bit more lenient, especially if there isn't some kind of technical reason for this.
Had the same question a while back. Just feels odd given that FM Server 16 doesn't have that requirement. For us, we use a couple of standalone FM15 Pro licenses for business continuity during extended internet outages. It would have been nice to be able use those licenses with FM Cloud 1.16... Not the end of the world, but I now have a couple of core users with 2 FM clients on their machine.
