I was able to do this with a previous version, but now when I print, this container field remains even when it is empty. Text fields seem to have no problem shrinking or resizing. I don't understand why the container field cannot resize.
Thank you for your post.
In Layout Mode, click on the Container field, show the Inspector, and in the Inspector, make sure Appearance -> Paragraph is set for Top Alignment. In addition, make sure Position -> Sliding & Visibility -> "Sliding up based on:" is also checked.
If the Container field is still not sliding, feel free to either attach the file to your post, or send the file to me. If the latter, I have sent you a private message with instructions where to send the file.
Hi TSGal, thank you for your reply. When I have the container field selected, the paragraph options for alignment are greyed out. I do have "sliding up based on" checked.
Is the sliding up based on all objects above or only objects directly above? If the former, check to see if you have any graphics on the layout that inhibit the sliding.
In Browse mode, click inside the field, and see if the option Edit -> Export Field Contents... is available. If so, that means there is data in the Container field.
Can you attach the file?
I made a clone of the file so I could upload and just checked it with graphics in some of the records, and it slides up and reduces the field!! but so now I should figure out why it doesn't work or, just transfer all my data to this clone file. Any tips on how I can figure out what is the difference between the two files (real file and clone file)?
thank you again for your help
Without seeing the file, it is hard to determine why it isn't working.
I have encountered other customer files that appeared to have blank Container fields that didn't slide. The cause was a blank image file in the Container field, so that is why I asked if Export Field Contents was an option for one of those blank Container records. If it is, try pulling down the Edit menu and selecting Clear.
If the issue is still occurring, I am willing to look at your database file. I have sent you a private message with instructions where to send the file.
I received your file. Thank you.
The reason the Container field is not sliding is because it is set for center alignment.
Go into Layout Mode, click the Container field, show the Inspector and click on the top right icon (Data). In the section under "Data formatting", the Alignment sub-section shows the vertical alignment as center. Change this to top alignment. The field will then slide.
WOW!!! Thank you so much! This has tormented me for so long.
