Just got this in my portal when I tried to enter a note. What does this mean, "this field cannot be modified until 'normal' is given a valid value. Haven't had this message thus far. What does it mean?
Do you have any field (in any table) named 'normal'?
If so what is the field definition?

Only time that I've seen that message is when you try to create a new record in a related table where "allow creation" is specified, but with an empty match field in the parent record. It's telling you that you need a value in that field before you can do this. So I'd check your relationship graph.
Hi. Yes, I have "normal and abnormal" in a checkbox also set in a value list. We are a medical office. Can you suggest what other medical offices use to replace the word "normal"?
The error message identifies a field named "normal", not a value "normal" entered into a field. Thus, the fact that your check box has a value named "normal" is not the source of this error.
Thanks. Any other suggestions?
Did you look at your relationships graph? IS there a field in your table with the name "normal"? What validation options have been set for it? What auto-enter options?
Not a value in a field. A field name as defined.
The only time i see that message is when portal is filtered, at the relationship level, and you try to preform a find on a field in the portal. FMP can't resolve the relationship because the filter is not valid in find mode.
sorry, i just re-read your post but i think it's still true that that field is empty.
philmodjunk and beverly's suggestions are the correct ones. You have a field named "normal" in your database, likely in the table that your parent layout is based on, the layout that contains the portal you're trying to enter the note into. This field must have a value in it in order to create a note in your portal. You are getting this error because the field named "normal" does not have a value.
EDIT: oops, and PSI, who clicked reply before I did.
