I want to select one of 3 pdfs based on record date and insert the relevant one into an interactive container. I've got a script working to put one pdf in the container but can't work out how to do the selection. Any help appreciated. Thanks
And where is the PDF located that you want to insert?
In a specific folder?
In a container field of another record?
Show us your script as it will help show us what you are trying to accomplish.
Thanks for responding. I’m new to this forum so sorry I didn’t give enough info.
As I’m just trying to sort things at the moment the pdfs are sitting on my laptop but once it’s sorted out they were going to sit on our server. However if that’s not the best place they can go elsewhere.
I’ve attached a screenshot of the script so far.
I would put each pdf in a container field in a record of a related table. One PDF to a record.
Then "selecting a PDF" would be a case of selecting and linking to the related record in order to access/display the PDF.
Thanks for your help. I’ll try that out.
I'm using High Sierra 10.13.2 on FMA16 using preview. The pdf's display correctly in the interactive containers,
but NO icon appears to open the pdf (screenshot is from non-High Sierra computers). I do not have this problem on other Mac's using 10.12
This renders my pdf containers useless on some of my computers. This as well as other pdf / interactive containers issues have been a problem since the release of FM16. FM blames it on plugg-ins, certificates, etc. when will they fix this issue?
This last post really has nothing to do with the question asked at the beginning. I suggest opening a new thread and asking this question.
Have done the following:
But a bit stuck on how to relate the tables. Do I still need a script?
Not necessarily. From the info provided thus far, I can only provide a general answer. Feel free to provide more detail if you have trouble with the following as it is just one of may possibilities:
Set up this relationship:
MainTable::_fkPDF_ID = PDFtable::__pkPDF_ID
You can then set up a "use values from field" value list where __pkPDF_ID is selected for field 1 and a Name or description field from PDFTable is selected for field 2. you can select the "show only 2nd field" option to hide the IDs and just list the name or description. You can then format the
_fkPDF_ID field with this value list, either as a Popup menu or radio buttons. You can then add the container field formatted as interactive from PDFtable to your MainTable layout along with the formatted _fkPDF_ID field. Selecting the PDF from this value list will then cause the selected PDF to appear on your layout.
No script used in this approach.
