Is it possible to export to an existing excel spreadsheet, what I'm trying to do is add data from a filemaker database to an excel spreadsheet with some existing data, this would be the same format?
I don't believe this is possible without some plugin. Saving something with the same name will overwrite what's already there, not add to it.
What if your original excel spreadsheet had a link to another one (the one that comes, with the same name every time)? I bet that's possible.
How about adding my new data to a certain tab? in excel spreadsheet?
I have done this only by importing (CSV) directly into an open worksheet.
Depending on the version(s), FileMaker may be shared as an ODBC sources.

You can do this with the XL functions in MBS FileMaker Plugin.
For this you would load the existing document, set the cells you need to modify and write it back to a file or container.
You should be able to do what you describe using AppleScript (OS X only)
