How can I sort records in A filtered portal? The portal is A selection of records from current date. When I make A script for sorting records, iT only sort all the records and not only in the portal. The portal is Made in a tab next to the form.
Is the sort on your relationship (as in the graph) or is the sort in your portal definition?
Screenshots might help here.
Thx for the quick reaction. The sort is in the portal definition (I think). I wilL make A screenshot.
I have the same question. Did you find a solution?
Thank you for the screen shots! I'll reply with a few of my own. I opened the starter app "Contacts" and used it for the screen shots.
1. when there is a relationship it is shown on the Relationship Graph (RG):
2. click the connector between the two Table Occurrences (TO) to get the details. You can SORT the relationship in this dialog:
3. this is the portal on the layout that uses the defined relationship:
4. edit the portal to see another place to SORT:
If you are filtering, you may also sort in this dialog. You may experiment with the use of these two locations to SORT related records. The first (via the RG) shows automagically in the portal when that TO is used on any layout. The second is an explicit sort for that portal based on that relationship (TO) on that layout.
Scripted sorts are not going to help for the portal records. However, you may have a report that uses GTRR (Go to Related Record) and is based on a flittered portal. Then you may sort the "found records" from that filtered TO.
In addition to choosing the fields directly for either of these sorts, you may have a "calculated" field that is used on various criteria to actually set a value upon which to sort. It's far more complex and I will often script a sort to set the values rather than rely on unstored calculation fields. That field can then be used in the Sort dialogs for the Edit Relationship (2, above) or the Portal Setup (4, above).
Or you may have a value list with custom values and it may be used in the sort dialogs (either). <== this is for non-alpha/number/date/time sorts. For example, I might have these custom values: Ordered, In Progress, Shipped, -, Canceled
And I want my report to sort in that exact order (not alpha). The Standard Sort dialog is used and a value list may be chosen. (using the same Contacts app):
HTH, and come back with questions specific to your needs. Post screen shots as I have and we can guide you to what needs to be.
