With WebDirect: Is it possible to take a photo on a mobile/tablet and enter it into a container field.
With webviewer or in any other way?
With webviewers it won't be possible due to browser sandboxing rule violations with the mobile OS.
The only way (in theory) would be a "round-trip" app on the phone. Something that you could use Open URL to launch the app with, and then have the user returned to the browser when finished.
The app would then either need to return the user with a base64 encoded version of the image as part of a URL, or utilize CWP to write the record back to FileMaker, before redirecting the user back to the browser application.
I'm not sure of android compatibility or photos, but similar apps for iOS have existed for things like barcode scanning.
You may want to reach out to someone like Alexey Dubov ( https://push2fm.com/ ) who is building these round trip apps still to see if they can build one for you.
Yes - you can do it natively in WebDirect... At least it works in a test I did with WebDirect running off of FMS16 and using Safari on iPhone iOS 11...
I used a script that just did :
Go to Field [ Select/perform; myTable::myContainerField]
Insert Picture [ ]
This gave me the following options (once I had tapped 'Choose File') using WebDirect in Safari on iPhone:
Selecting the 'Take Photo or Video' option allowed me to use the camera and the photo was uploaded to the container field
I've no idea if this works on Android though....
Interesting, I didn't get that in past versions of FMS but I never recall seeing an addition for it.
Hopefully someone with an android device can chime in with a test as well.
The documentation doesn't specifically say that it's NOT supported on Android:
FileMaker Pro 16 Help
It still works on FMS 17 latest build as of now, with Android 7.1.1 on a cheap Motorola G4 mikebeargie
Thanks for the tip!
