I have two questions regarding container fields.
When the user drags & drops (or right click inserts) a PDF into a container field can filemaker
a. Extract the file name and place it in a field?
b. Post the file path to a field?
a. Is possible if you use the getContainerAttribute function.
b. Is not possible with drag and drop as this copies the file into the field. It is possible with insert, but only if you specify “store a reference“ during insert.
There is a lot of information available to you. You can get the name of the container simply using GetAsText ( table::containerField ). Explore the container functions, the help pages are at FileMaker Pro 16 Help
Regarding the reference, be aware that the option to store as a reference is already on the deprecated features list with FMP 16.
Well, thanks for that information.
I don't need the file itself in a container. Just a way for the user to open it. Right now I have them use the Mac OS automator "get file path" and then paste it into the field. I thought a drag and drop would be easier process.
