does anybody know whether is it is (going to be) possible to Import and Export via the Files App ergo outside of FileMaker's own sandbox?

There's nothing pegged in the roadmap that I know of, but this would be a great topic for posting over in Product Ideas. I'd encourage you make a post there so it can be upvoted.
just posted this a a product idea ...
FMGo does partial support importing and exporting of data. There is a Import and Export script step.
Import - FileMaker Pro 16 Help
Export -FileMaker Pro 16 Help
The file does have to be located within FMGo Document Folder or Temp Folder.
Link to the idea, please?
FileMaker Go Import and Export via Files App
can you please explain how I can specify a folder that lies outside the FileMaker Go sandbox?
Thanks in advance and best regards - Dick
The file has to be located in the Document folder or Temp Folder on the device.
You can save files and download files from cloud services using json.
I doubt FMI / Apple would let you save / download files automatically using any other method because of the security risk.
There would also be a very big risk of file corruption with multiple computers / devices accessing the file on a cloud drive. Service such as dropbox will only allow one user at a time to have access to a file, so if multiple attempts is made you will get a conflicted copies, you would end up with multiple database and all with different data.
Here is a link to dropbox API HTTP - Developers - Dropbox
it's not that I want to import/export FileMaker databases outside FileMaker Go's sandbox, but text and documents stored in the iOS File App's (central) folders. It's this App that's is the iOS's finder and takes care of the exchange of data/files between Apps.
So does this mean that when you say 'import/export' you actually just want to insert documents from the Files app into Container Fields in your database, and also save documents from container fields into the Files app?
If so, then yes, you can choose files of pretty much any type from the Files app, as well as other storage locations such as Dropbox etc. The file you select will be inserted into the container field. Also, you can export the contents of a container field to many destination choices, e.g. Mail, Files app, other apps etc...
This is quite different from Import/Export in the sense of actually importing or exporting records from the database file. FileMaker Go can only directly import records from other FileMaker (.fmp12) files that are either hosted and you have access to, or stored locally in the FileMaker Go 'Documents' or 'Temporary' folders by using the 'Import Records...' script step.
It can export records as Tab-Separated, Comma-Separated, DBF, Merge, HTML Table and Excel (.xlsx), and you can choose many destinations for that, e.g. Mail, Files app, etc. in the same way as exporting the contents of container fields.
I think the idea is to perform the Import / Export via scripting !!!!
That is indeed the idea!
