Is it possible to custom sort a conditional value list?
I've created a custom sort list, assigned it via the "Relationships" tab in Database Manager" but it just keeps reverting to Alphabetical order
This is a common question.
There are ways to do this, but they are all workarounds.
One option, which is mentioned a lot by philmodjunk and myself (I prefer this method), is to turn the value list into a portal in a popover and let the user select from one of the rows in the portal. In a portal we can sort the values any way we want through the portal itself or thru the relationship, so that's a handy way to show users a custom-sorted value list.
Another option is to do some work on fields to get it to sort the way you want. Check out this blog post.
The following teaching file includes examples of selection portals that you might build into your solution. It also shows one way to arbitrarily sort the values of a field based value list, but has some very obvious limitations that can preclude that particular method from being used.

Thank you both for sharing, I shall take a look at how hard it is to do :-)
