Probably too long ago for this forum and none of the headings really covers it but has anyone got a copy of the Protolight plugin for file handling in FMP6?
Flashback! Protolight was the "file" plugin created by Dave McKee. One of the first plug-ins (if not the first) for FileMaker Pro.
You will hear the "upgrade, upgrade!" chant here. And that's valid advice for so many reasons, including the need to replace this old plug-in!
If you must stay in FMP6, you might contact Troi and see if there is an older version of their file plug-in that will work for you.
I receive no compensation for mentioning any of the products above. I was/am an owner/user of them, though!
I am awaiting a reply from Troi. I've looked everywhere to see if I can contact Dave but failed miserably. Since his plugin was free I wondered if anyone had a copy they could send to me. If you have any more details they would be very welcome!
With regard to upgrading I have a solution which 'runs' on the full range of windows environments successfully from 98SE to 10! FMP6 does the job for me on.
My alternative, which is also particularly elusive, is to find out what the DDE command is for delete a file is - any ideas?
Export field contents without specifying the field and using the filename of the target field will work if I recall correctly. Or some variant of that.
Thanks Stephen and my error in not being fully forthcoming. I have a mail plugin which will put incoming files to wherever I nominate. Unfortunately if there is a file of the same name (which there will be) the new one will have a number appended to the name making it unable to become part of the solution (I'm amending a runtime file) and there is no utility for overwrite.
I also do use the export you mentioned and you are quite correct it overwrites whatever is there with the same name - fortunately!
No sorry. I never used the DDE commands. Again those "upgrade, upgrade" chants are starting to get louder. LOL
I know this is months late, and I hope you found a workable solution. However, just for the record if someone, for some strange reason, wants a copy of my old plug-ins, they can find them at:
You can delete file with "Send Message" step using text.
cmd /c del "path\to\the\file"
(You'd need using field to set filepath on run time)
On 98SE or non-NT Windows, "cmd" should be "command".
Thanks that's great David I'll give them a fling. Are there any issues with the experimental beta version that you can remember - I need this for filmmaker 5.
Well, it's been about 15 years since I looked at them, but I don't remember any major issues with the "experimental" versions. In fact, I've only ever tested them with FM 5 & 6. For the file toolbox plug-in, I vaguely recollect a minor bug with the "find string" function, but that's all. Probably the biggest issue will be that the Mac versions are Stuffit archives, which macOS refuses to deal with, so you'll have to find a utility to expand them. Good luck!
